Minister of Faith Formation

About the Church

The American International Church is a multi-national, multi-racial, multi-denominational congregation in central London, welcoming people from diverse theological and religious backgrounds to worship God, grow in faith, and serve together in love.

Our worshipping community averages 70-80 people each week, including university students, tourists, short-term and long-term London residents, and at least a dozen children and youth under 18. Most people are expats, but only a third are American. Many speak English as a second language, and most are under age 65.

Our church hosts a Soup Kitchen, Cold Weather Shelter and many other mission projects which engage hundreds of people beyond our worshipping congregation. We operate a thriving business renting our rooms to the performing arts industry and our outdoor space to an international street food market. These programs bring thousands of people into the church building, most of whom have no relationship with church or Christ. We want to engage them in relationship with the church community and invite them into conversation with the Christian tradition.

About the Position

The full-time Minister of Faith Formation will help us strengthen and grow existing faith formation programs for all ages, while also helping us think creatively about how to build relationships with secular people in our wider circle. S/he will be part of a staff team under the direction of the Senior Minister, working collaboratively on worship leadership, program development, and general pastoral responsibilities while exercising creative leadership for our faith formation ministries, especially for children and youth. This position offers an opportunity to experiment with new programs and models for evangelism, worship and faith formation within a vibrant, thriving congregation.

Our Minister of Faith Formation will be trained by an accredited seminary, preferably ordained or in the process toward ordination in a denomination recognized by the World Council of Churches. S/he will have a passion for nurturing spiritual development in people of all ages with diverse faith backgrounds, including those new to Christianity or skeptical of it. Experience in urban ministry, fresh expressions of church, and/or multi-cultural contexts is a plus. S/he will share the core values and mission of the American International Church, including a generous theology and cultural sensitivity. We welcome new seminary graduates and experienced candidates.
